Whittier, CA— In a landslide vote, Congresswoman Linda Sánchez took home the endorsement recommendation of the California Democratic Party (CDP) at its ‘Pre-Endorsement’ conference at the Whittier Library on Saturday. By a vote of 46 to 9, delegates for California’s new 38th Congressional District voted to recommend Congresswoman Linda Sánchez for the CDP’s formal endorsement at the party convention in February.
“It is an honor to receive the endorsement recommendation from the people who are the heart and soul of our local Democratic party,” said Congresswoman Linda Sánchez. “Their decisive vote tells me that they want bold leadership for the new 38th District, and I pledge that I will fight tirelessly for our communities in Washington. I am looking forward to meeting and talking with more people from the new 38th District so that we can work together and solve the problems we face each day. ”
Saturday’s conference was attended by members of the Democratic State Central and Los Angeles County Committees, as well as representatives of Democratic Party chartered clubs.
California Democratic Party bylaws state that candidates need to secure at least 70% of the total votes cast at a Pre-Endorsement conference to receive an endorsement recommendation at the CDP convention. Saturday’s overwhelming vote, in which Congresswoman Sánchez secured 84% of the vote, means that her endorsement recommendation will be placed on the consent calendar for a ratification vote by the delegates at the state party convention in San Diego next month.
The new 38th Congressional District drawn by the California Citizens Redistricting Commission is compromised of nearly half of California’s current 39th Congressional District, which Congresswoman Sánchez has represented since 2003.
Linda Sánchez has a consistent track record in securing federal funding for California’s 39th district, including for major infrastructure and road improvements. Last month, Congresswoman Sánchez helped secure $2 million dollars in emergency federal funding to repair the Paramount Boulevard Bridge on the 60 Freeway after the bridge was destroyed in a tanker truck fire.
